The Federal Government has recently announced that the Federal Solar Hot Water Rebate will no long be means tested and will be in addition to most State Government Rebate Programs and the Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) Scheme. The Solar Hot Water Rebate scheme relates to the replacement of electrical hot water systems with heat pump hot eater systems or solar hot water systems. All new homes today
So who’s eligible for the rebates? (Pretty much anyone)
- Anyone who is replacing an existing electrical hot water system, that is more that one year old, with solar or heat pump hot water systems
- Anyone who is installing solar or heat pump hot water systems that are eligible for 20 RECS or more
- Anyone who installed a new solar or heat pump hot water system after the 3rd February 2009 (when the scheme was first announced)
There are many benefits in replacing your existing electrical hot water system to both YOU and the environment. Some of these are listed below:
- YOU will reduce your carbon emissions and therefore your carbon footprint significantly
- YOU will save money on your water bills when you use a solar or heat pump hot water system when compared to standard electric hot water systems
- YOU can currently take advantage of the non means tested Federal, State and REC rebates. This could mean that you end up paying for an environmentally friendly system than you would for a standard hot water system.
- NOW is a great time to consider a solar or heat pump hot water system. As legislation continues to place restrictions on environmentally unfriendly practices it looks likely that traditional electrical storage water heaters will be banned. By then rebates may not be as available as they are now. Rebates are currently at their peak so take advantage of this over the next 12 months, before legislation may change.
