4 Reasons Relining Stormwater Pipes Is Crucial

Jan 31, 2024

Pipe relining is the most noninvasive way to fix damaged or defective stormwater pipes throughout Sydney’s East.

If you were to consider full pipe replacements, it would mean extensive digging that is both time-consuming and damaging to the affected area.
Relining plumbing pipes is a more cost-effective alternative, as plumbers use professional tools and modern technology to ensure minimal disruption.

Here at Rose Bay Plumbing, our plumbers are pipe relining specialists and have been fixing stormwater plumbing systems in Sydney since 1979.
Our pipe relining Eastern suburbs services include the areas of Alexandria, Bellevue, Bondi, Bronte, Coogee, Double Bay, Edgecliff, Kings Cross, Marouba, Paddington, Randwick, Rose Bay, Vaucluse and Woollahra.

Read more below to learn about the most common reasons for needing relined pipes…

1. Bad Water Pressure

A weak water flow isn’t ideal anywhere in the house, especially not whilst trying to fill up the sink, run a bath or take a shower.

The most obvious reason is a broken pipe or a blocked pipe, which we’ll go into more detail about below. Another cause could be the way the pipes have been installed and directed around the house. Water will always have a hard time flowing freely in pipes that are too narrow or twisty or in pipes that have been put in too deep underground.

If your taps and appliances are struggling or making spluttering sounds, chances are your pressure is being impacted.

Stormwater relining is the best way to improve flow and consistency. It’s also a good preventative.

2. A Blocked Stormwater Pipe

A blocked drain is a common but destructive plumbing problem to have.

Clogs can occur when tree roots penetrate a concrete or PVC stormwater pipe. They branch out for signs of water and oxygen, so even the smallest bit of damage like a deteriorated or dislodged joint or seal in a pipe is an invitation. Our team can perform a
root risk analysis to confirm this.

Other areas of the garden can cause issues too, like a build-up of fallen leaves, twigs, bark, mulch and dirt carried over to grates by torrential rain.

Indicators of a drain blockage include water struggling to go down the drain or coming back up the sink and loud gurgling and sucking sounds.

Stormwater pipe relining teams can clear the debris with a high-pressure hose and then re-seal the damaged pipe from the inside.

3. A Cracked Stormwater Pipe

A leaking stormwater pipe is a sign of damage or erosion.

If the pipe is old and worn out it will become rust-affected. This can cause holes or cracks to open up in the piping, allowing water to escape.

If the water flow is strong, this can also put pressure on stormwater pipes and cause a full-scale rupture. Unavoidable vibrations due to work being done in the garden or on the house can cause issues too.

Visible leaks, drips and pooling or flooding will alert you to the fact that the structural integrity of your pipe is compromised. Depending on how far underground the pipe is, you might also be able to hear the water getting out.

This is when you need a stormwater pipe repair done. Relining is the best way to fix a broken stormwater pipe, as it will strengthen the damaged spot without disturbing the rest of the pipe that is still intact.

4. Stinky Drains

Without regular and professional stormwater pipe cleaning, you can get a build-up of mould and bacteria.

Pipes and drains with clogs, cracks or leaks are fertile environments for slimy microbial cells like biofilm to grow. Not only will it start to smell like bad eggs if left untreated, but it also has the potential to contaminate the water going into the home.

Debris is a major trigger for emergency drain repairs too as the longer it sits in the pipes the more damage it does (and the more it stinks!)

Professional
pipe lining is the best way to treat the problem. Our domestic pipe relining plumbers can inspect your drains and lines and then fix the place in the pipes where the bacteria got in and spread.
